Meet Dr. Ingrid Thrall
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Clinical Sexologist with a Private Practice in East Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I started out in the field of Physical Therapy more than 30 years ago. I embarked on my personal transformational journey over 20 years ago, which lead me to the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, a four year Bachelor’s program where students learn energy science and healing skills but also process their own wounding and issues to heal themselves. It changed my life. That’s when I decided to become a counselor. I graduated from Nova University with a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. While completing my internship and working in Community Mental Health for almost six years I encountered countless clients with a history of sexual trauma, and other sexual concerns. As a result I decided to get a Doctorate’s Degree in Clinical Sexology.
As a Mental Health Counselor, I work with clients that struggle with anything from depression, anxiety, difficult life transitions, grief, low self-esteem or from feeling overwhelmed with life in general. As a Clinical Sexologist I specialize in working with individuals and couples that feel unfulfilled with their intimate relationship, either the quality or frequency of sexual activity. I deal with issues such as low sex drive, hyper-sexuality, sexual inhibition, sexual aversion, sexual trauma, sexual incompatibility, infidelity and gender issues. I specialize in feelings of sexual shame, guilt or anxiety about your body and sexuality.
I am committed to helping you create a life that is filled with joy, satisfaction and wellbeing and create deeper more meaningful, intimate relationships, including and most importantly the one you have with yourself. Helping to remove the shackles of the wounding and trauma from the past and challenge the erroneous belief systems that developed as a result. I help my clients develop new ways to deal with old feelings, behaviors, and problems. Whether you are struggling with sexual concerns, depression, anxiety, or your life seems to lack joy and meaning or you are going through a difficult transition in life you have come to right place.
I believe in the mind and body connection, and the importance of self-empowerment, self-acceptance, and self-compassion.
My approach is mainly based on evidence based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) but I also draw from other theories and techniques; Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Feminist and Mindfulness to mention a few. I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. I work with each individual to help him or her attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplish.
Research has shown that the number one factor that makes for the most effective relief of depression, anxiety, shame, and confusion is the empathic connection between the therapist and the client, no matter what theory is being used. Most importantly, it is about connection, contact, compassion, and unconditional positive regard, and acceptance. It is a non-judgmental exploration of the issues at hand and helping you get insight to change and create the life you want and deserve.
